The new complex will incorporate a casino, restaurants, entertainment venues and a hotel and conference center. The deal is contingent upon implementation of proposed gaming law reforms, but the developers say the project, if it goes ahead, will further strengthen Sheffield's regional role as a focal point for leisure, sport and tourism. Meadowhall already attracts up to 800,000 visitors per week.

British Land chairman and managing director John Ritblat says: "We are delighted to be working with MGM MIRAGE on such an exciting initiative, and with the opportunity to strengthen our investment in Meadowhall and our commitment to Sheffield."
