Developer Named for Georgia Ave. Condo

WASHINGTON, DC-New life will be breathed into what was once a bustling commercial area in the Petworth community, now that a new development is slated for a parcel near the Georgia Ave.-Petworth Metro Station. The city has decided to go with a plan by Bethesda, MD-based developer Donatelli & Klein Inc. to redevelop the property into a 148-unit condominium building with about 17,000 sf of ground-level retail space. “Donatelli & Klein is the smart choice for the city,” DC Mayor Anthony A. Williams says. “They exceeded all the RFP’s requirements. And they asked for no District subsidy–creating new economic development at no cost our residents.”

Donatelli & Klein’s $40 million project is part of a grander endeavor, the District’s Georgia Avenue Revitalization Initiative, which is designed to bring new life to the long-neglected stretch of Georgia Ave. that runs through the Petworth neighborhood. The initiative calls for facilitating a more vibrant neighborhood atmosphere through the rehabilitation of existing housing, creation of new living options, expansion of businesses, and establishment of public open spaces.
