Speculation is that Allina will choose the Minneapolis site-—the former Sears building at the intersection of Lake Street and Chicago Avenue. Allina officials say they favored the site, as long as access was improved. The city recently approved adding a Lake Street access ramp to Interstate 35W, arguing that having Allina as a major tenant would spur revitalization of the East Lake Street corridor.
Allina's board began discussions last fall on whether the 13 corporate locations should consolidate into one. The board requested a comprehensive study be completed and long-term administrative space needs be evaluated.
After reviewing the study, the board decided to move forward on the corporate headquarters, Allina Commons. The decision was based on a projected $2 million annual savings and improved operations. Allina has been in discussions with the cities of St. Paul, Roseville and Minneapolis regarding potential sites. All three have submitted competitive proposals, according to Allina officials.locally based Allina Hospitals & Clinics is a non-profit healthcare system of hospitals, clinics and other patient care services. The system provides care to communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin and employs more than 22,000 people, about 1,200 of whom would work at its headquarters.
