Two Office Buildings to Sprout Up on Eighth Street

WASHINGTON, DC-Development of the Portrait Building and the Greene Building on Eighth Street has gotten under way in the East End. Together, the structures will add nearly 170,000 sf to the District’s office space pool near the MCI Center. The Trammell Crow Co. is the developer behind the project, while the Clark Construction Group Inc. is on board as general contractor for the separately owned buildings. Development of both structures, referred to jointly as Square 429, will cost a total of $21.7 million.

G St. LLC, which is held by Dutch real estate management firm Wereldhave, is the owner of the Portrait Building, an eight-story tower at 701 Eighth St. that will feature 135,000 sf. Already, law firm Thelen Reid & Priest has committed to 75,000 sf of the building, which will also sport ground-level retail space and a four-level underground parking facility upon its scheduled completion early next year.
