Ground Breaks on 110,000-SF Grocery-Anchored Retail Property

FREDERICK, MD-The Shops at Monocacy is on the road to realization now that the ground has been broken on the 107,000-sf shopping center. Columbia, MD’s Manekin LLC is building the grocery-anchored retail property on behalf of project developer Saul Centers, a Bethesda, MD-based equity REIT. “North Frederick is an emerging new growth area and the Shops at Monocacy will be the first neighborhood oriented center where residents can gather,” Saul Centers VP of construction and development services Brian Downie says.

Sporting a brick façade at the intersection of Rte. 26 and Monocacy Blvd., the Shops at Monocacy already has a list of tenants onboard, including Giant Food store, which will serve as the property anchor in a 58,000-sf space. Hair Cuttery, Sandy Spring Bank and Service Cleaners have also signed on for space at the strip mall. Including the 13-acre parcel on which it sits, the shopping center will have cost $21.3 million to develop upon its scheduled fall completion.
