Spring Start for $5M St. Croix Riverway HQ

ST. CROIX FALLS, WI-Partners & Sirny is designing the "green" headquarters and visitor center for the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and its museum.

ST. CROIX FALLS, WI-A new $5 million St. Croix National Scenic Riverway headquarters and visitor center is expected to start construction this spring in this small Wisconsin town not far from the Twin Cities. The new energy-efficient building, designed for the National Park Service by Partners & Sirny architects in Minneapolis, will feature a geothermal heating and cooling system, passive solar heating, natural lighting, low-flow plumbing, wallboard made from wheat, cabinet materials made from sunflowers and natural ventilation with operable triple-glazed windows.

A portion of the roof will be a “green roof” that will serve as a garden where employees and the public can walk out and view the river, says Paul Anderson, director of the environmental education studio at Partners & Sirny. Construction is slated to begin this spring on a new building that will be built away from the river on the site where the current headquarters’ parking lot is located.
