CHANHASSEN, MN-The Sierra Club is waging a campaign to protect a wetland property here called Seminary Fen. The land, which the group calls one of the finest remaining wetlands in the state, could be lost to development as soon as the end of February. An agreement to purchase an important 160-acre parcel of the property for conservation was recently rejected by the landowners. The Sierra Club and community groups say they have tried to raise more than $2 million to buy the fen.

The club calls the wetland “a natural resource and community asset,” but also says that it‚s also one of the few remaining undeveloped parcels in Chanhassen, a town to the southwest of Minneapolis. Leaving it in a natural state has been a priority of Chanhassen’s citizens and public officials, as well as the state, according to Sierra Club officials.
