Ground was broken in February on a new $7-million dinning hall at the base, which will serve members of all the military services. Selfridge is unique around the country in that it has members of all five military services assigned to it and is the training center for thousands of military reservists. The 23,000-sf dining hall will be jointly operated by the Air National Guard's 127th Wing and the Air Force Reserve's 927th Air Refueling Wing.

"This dining facility will add tremendous value to the greater Selfridge community," says Maj. Gen. Thomas Cutler, commander of the Michigan National Guard. "We thought long and hard about the location."

Cutler says a "memorial park" will be located between the dining facility and the Base Operations building, and the exterior design of the facility will be traditional to Selfridge."I said, 'I would like a community center with a kitchen attached,'" Cutler notes. "They did it."

Besides the new dining facility, US Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan points out that Selfridge ANG Base has also constructed a new runway, new vehicle maintenance facility, new airport tower, and will build a new medical facility in 2005.Anzaldua/Garrison-A Joint Venture of Farmington Hills is the contractor of the project. The project engineers at Selfridge are Warren Brown of the 127th Wing and Michon Sentner of the 927th Air Refueling Wing.
