Ed Wulfe tells GlobeSt.com that they are just now deciding how many and who will be on the all-volunteer task force. He is estimating the group will end up with 10 to 15 members.
White, who recently announced the task force's formation, said in a press release that "we want to maximize the city's assets and ensure Houston is using its real estate in the best, most cost-effective way. This administration will take a businesslike approach to getting the most value of taxpayers. This task force will help us do that."
The mayor has flagged the task force as a high priority. Wulfe says the owned and leased properties are being compiled for the task force's analysis. According to an article published in July 2003, the city owned and leased more than five million sf.
The group's mission is to review and evaluate all city-owned properties and make recommendations about their best use; identify and prioritize opportunities to minimize real estate operating costs; analyze existing leases or other agreements, whether the city is the lessee or the lessor; and work with city departments on the dispositions and acquisitions.
Wulfe has 39 years in development, brokerage and property management. His high-profile redevelopment projects include the Gulfgate Shopping Center and Meyerland Plaza. At last count, his firm leased and managed nearly six million sf in the region.
