Centex Retains Title as Twin Cities Top Builder

MINNEAPOLIS-In a very busy market, Centex Homes was followed by the Rottlund Co., DR Horton and MW Johnson Homes in total dollar volume for residential permits issued.

MINNEAPOLIS-Centex Homes, for the third year in a row, was the top residential builder in the Twin Cities in total dollar volume for permits issued, according to the results of a new survey from the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. Dallas-based Centex was followed by the Rottlund Co. of Roseville, MN, DR Horton, Inc.-Minnesota of Lakeville, MN and MW Johnson Homes of Blaine, MN.

The top three firms retained their rankings from 2001, while MW Johnson moved ahead of last year’s number four, Orrin Thompson Homes. BATC compiled their annual Top 25 listing based on permit valuations.

With a very busy market in 2003, the top two builders permitted more than 1,000 units during the year. Centex Homes, permitted 1,063 units, which is 12% more than the 945 units they permitted in 2002. The total value of permits Centex pulled in 2003 was $149.8 million, an increase of 17%.
