The new 29-gate terminal, projected to cost an estimated $428 million, will accommodate the scheduled domestic carriers currently operating out of the Smith Terminal. The WCAA is seeking a design, which will minimize walking distances for passengers, include modern passenger conveyances, provide excellent retail opportunities and allow aircraft to more efficiently taxi between runways and gates.

The selected team will conduct a site survey, and design and prepare construction documents for everything from utility tunnels to boarding lounges. Baggage systems, restrooms, concession spaces, ticketing, curb front, aprons, hydrant fueling systems, support offices, security systems and storage are all included.

A $344-million bond issue, sold in December, will contribute approximately $70 million to the initial phases in this project to provide another new terminal for DTW. A & E teams have until March 30 to respond to the airport's request for qualifications.
