Local economic development authorities tout the area's easy accessibility to oute 1 and I-95, the availability of large plots of land, and the low cost of doing business in the area as the main reasons why the state was able to attract the project.

"The Wal-Mart Distribution Center will make a significant contribution to Smyrna's economy," Mark G. Schaeffer, mayor of Smyrna, says. "It is not just job creation. The Wal-Mart Distribution Center will help support our school district. It will act as a springboard in attracting new businesses, and it will enhance our tax base." The facility increases the company's presence in Delaware by more than 30%. Wal-Mart Stores already has three discount locales, four Supercenters destinations, and a Sam's Club in the state, accounting for a total of more than 3,000 employees.
