Emerald Packaging Expands Operations

UNION CITY, CA-Emerald Packaging has acquired a 13-acre property with a 70,000-sf manufacturing building. The locally based supplier of produce packaging paid $5.8 million for the property, which it will use to meet its immediate and future expansion needs.

Founded in Berkeley in 1963, Emerald manufactures plastic bags for a variety of clients, including Dole, Grimmway Farms and Salad Time Farms. The company has about 100 employees and annual sales of more than $18 million.

The new property is located right off Interstate 880 at 30300 Union City Blvd., about two miles from the company’s existing manufacturing plant, which it also owns. The seller was Bemis Foundation, which is related to Minneapolis-based Bemis Company, a publicly traded global manufacturer of flexible packaging, primarily for the food industry.
