Houston TOBY Winners Named

HOUSTON-The renovated Nabisco cookie factory, now owned by Texas Medical Center, takes the medical office building award after an extensive renovation. Other wins go to BMC Software, American General, Granite, Transco and the "his and her" CBD towers.

HOUSTON-Six office buildings in Houston have won TOBY awards in the first leg of the annual BOMA competition.

In the corporate facilities category, BMC Software Inc. won for a four-building, 1.5-million-sf campus on 52 acres at 2101 CityWest Blvd. The win was attributed to the high-tech environment and on-site amenities like a travel agency, computer store, care and detail center, full service bank, hair salon, fitness centers and three cafes.

The medical office building win went to the 638,000-sf 2450 Holcombe building, the former Nabisco cookie factory bought nearly four years ago by the Texas Medical Center. A renovation retained the facade, including the Nabisco logo, and retooled the interior into offices for the medical group’s 42-member institutions. Judges credited the decision to the owner’s preservation of the Nabisco history and creative use of interior space. The class A Granite Towers at Sugar Creek took the 100,000-sf to 249,000-sf office building award. Located at 13135 Dairy Ashford on the west side of town, the 204,000-sf, eight-story building was designed by Kirksey & Partners in Houston. Dallas-based Granite Properties is the owner.
