BRA Approves 79-Unit Brewery Lofts Project

BOSTON-The green light has been given to the Brewery Lofts project at 251 Heath St. Commonwealth Ventures wants to redevelop the former American Brewery Company building complex into a 79-unit residential development.

BOSTON-The board of the Boston Redevelopment Authority gave its approval to the Brewery Lofts project at 251 Heath St. in the Mission Hill neighborhood. Commonwealth Ventures LLC, the developer, wants to redevelop the former American Brewery Co. building complex into a residential development containing 79 units with 83 parking spaces. The existing redbrick main brewery buildings will be retained and redeveloped to contain 48 units. Three stories of new construction along Lawn Street will create an additional 31 units above the two levels of structured parking. The total development cost is estimated to be $27 million.

In addition to the 11 on-site affordable units, the developer has agreed to incorporate an affordable housing contribution of $100,000 to be used for affordable housing projects in the neighborhood. “The Brewery Lofts project will reuse historically significant brewery buildings and provide much needed additional housing to this neighborhood,” says BRA director Mark Maloney. “Additionally, the project will provide streetscape and curbside signage improvements along with the creation of approximately 120 new construction jobs over an 18-month construction period.”
