Eden Prairie Drops Out Of Vikings' Stadium Hunt

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN-Anoka County's Blaine site remains the only site in the running for a stadium that could cost about $500 million; Eden Prairie says it has other options for its "Golden Triangle" property and wasn't enthused with state financial help as outlined recently by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN-The City of Eden Prairie is dropping its bid to attract a Minnesota Vikings football stadium. Anoka County’s Blaine site remains the only community actively pursuing a Vikings stadium. The Anoka County finance plan, as passed by its county board, pledges up to $240 million in countywide sales taxes for a new $600-million stadium. The county and Vikings are currently negotiating a possible exclusive agreement.

Eden Prairie, with its prime “Golden Triangle” area north of I-494 available for redevelopment, wanted regional or statewide funding for its stadium plan. Until it moved to new headquarters in Richfield last year, Best Buy Co. had its headquarters in this area.
