State's $101M Office Building Gets Name

ST. PAUL-The new 407,000-sf, eight-story office building is under construction at 540 Cedar Street between 10th and 11th and Cedar and Minnesota streets at the site of the old Capitol Square Building. It will be named for former Gov. Elmer Andersen.

ST. PAUL-The State of Minnesota has unveiled plans for a new 407,000-sf eight-story office building at 540 Cedar St. between 10th and 11th, Cedar and Minnesota streets at the site of the old Capitol Square Building. Gov. Tim Pawlenty has proposed naming the $101-million Downtown building for the Minnesota Department of Human Services for former Gov. Elmer L. Andersen.

The adjacent parking ramp to the Elmer L. Andersen Human Services Building will have 468 parking spaces.

Work on the new building began in January. The state plans to start moving staff there in the fall of 2005, and occupy it by the end of 2005. Building construction cost is estimated at $73.9 million, while the total project cost is estimated to come in at more than $101 million.
