TwinWest To Study Merger of Two Suburbs

NEW HOPE, MN-The area chamber of commerce would like to raise money to study the possibility of merging the cities of New Hope and Crystal, neighboring suburbs in the northwest section of the Twin cities. The merger has been talked about for decades and the cities already share a fire department.

NEW HOPE, MN-The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce says it would like to look at the impact of a possible merger between the cities of New Hope and Crystal, neighboring suburbs northwest of Minneapolis. At a recent meeting, the leaders of the business organization said they plan to raise funds to pay for the study, but will not take a position on the merger until the study is completed.

That said, one of the chamber’s lobbying goals this year is to encourage closer cooperation between units of government.

The merger effort was revived by Pete Enck, the outgoing mayor of New Hope. A potential merger between New Hope and Crystal has been talked about for decades. At one time, the League of Women Voters advocated such a merger. The demographic similarities as well as the fact they already share a fire department were among reasons proponents gave for the merger.
