Another $1 million in federal and state funds is also alleged to be missing on the Hamlet, an apartment and townhome project that was never built, according to the Sheriff's Office.

GlobeSt.com could not reach Birle after several telephone attempts were made to her Yalaha, FL home in Lake County. She faces up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.

The investigation into the alleged missing funds took two years to complete, according to county investigators. On a complaint filed by Seminole County manager Kevin Grace, the Sheriff's Office alleges Birle wasn't paying her subcontractors for work done on several multifamily projects. Instead, she was submitting claims for them to the county and pocketing the funds, the formal complaint against her alleges.
