Airport Buys Buildings for $3M to Add Parking

FLINT, MI-An Econolodge and former satellite office of the Flint Journal are acquired for nearly $2.9 million and will be razed to make way for up to 1,300 parking spaces to serve the increasingly busy Bishop International Airport.

FLINT, MI-Bishop International Airport will invest just shy of $3 million to add more parking spaces. The airport spent $2.2 million to purchase the Econolodge adjacant to airport property and another $695,000 to purchase a former satellite office of the Flint Journal.

Both of the buildings will be razed to make way for more parking spaces for the growing airport, which serves the Flint area and much of the northern suburbs of Detroit.

The $2.98 million project came after Northwest Airlines added nonstop flights from the airport to Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale in Florida last year, generating an increase in passenger volume.
