The company also expects to open Ashley stores in Maplewood and Woodbury by the end of the year.

Ashley's Shakopee store will be part of a 170,000-sf complex that includes a 100,000-sf Furniture Outlets store and 18,000 sf for warehousing. The Fridley store is being built at the site of a former Wickes building, and also will serve as Furniture Outlets' main Twin Cities distribution center.

The Ashley stores will join the metro area's growing number of furniture retailers, which already includes Hom Furniture, Schneiderman's, Gabberts, Slumberland, Ethan Allan Home Interiors and Room & Board.

Ashley stores carry high-end, designer-style furniture and home furnishings at promotional or midlevel prices. The independent owners of the stores buy merchandise directly from Wisconsin-based Ashley Furniture Industries.

Ashley Furniture Industries, the furniture maker and importer, has more than 100 independently owned and operated stores under the Ashley banner.

Furniture Outlets USA has six Ashley stores including four Minnesota stores in Albertville, Medford, North Branch and Rochester, which are from 40 miles to 100 miles away from the Twin Cities.
