Henry County Considers Convention Center

ATLANTA-Local government and business leaders in Henry County, a booming 323-square-mile area 30 miles east of Downtown, are scheduled to meet this month to consider drafting plans for a combination convention and conference center that could generate new sales tax revenue for the area.

Area brokers and independent planning consultants tell GlobeSt.com Henry County needs a new funding base to pay for new roads, improvements to existing roads and other related infrastructure in an area described nationally as one of the fastest-growing counties in the US. Henry County has a permanent population of 140,000, a figure that has increased by 23% since 2000, according to the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Industrial real estate brokers tell GlobeSt.com the county continues to attract developers who are banking on a growing residential and commercial base that will follow the construction of a planned $20-million, state-built interchange on Interstate 75.
