The local stores are at 19150 Telegraph, 8665 Rosa Parks and 8000 West Outer Dr. Suburban locations include 9023 Joseph Campau in Hamtramck, 19230 Harper in Harper Woods, 14100 Woodward in Highland Park, 2400 W. Fort in Lincoln Park, 3600 Oakwood in Melvindale, 3995 E. 14 Mile in Sterling Heights and 35400 E. Michigan in Wayne.
"Food Basics brings a whole new concept in food shopping to metro Detroit," says Earl Weissert, president of Food Basics USA. "We have low prices every day because we skip the costly frills and extra services of conventional supermarkets and focus on the fresh products and name-brand items shoppers buy most often."
The stores offer meat, poultry and deli items only in prepackaged amounts as a way, it says, to avoid the added expense of in-store handling. The store also requires customers to bag their own groceries in bags they bring themselves or purchase at the store.
The stores will all offer in-store banks from either Fifth Third Bank or Best Bank, and half of the stores will have in-store pharmacies.
