SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA-San Diego County is experiencing a slight uptick in unemployment, according to data released Friday by the California Employment Development Department. The EDD report contains preliminary research on California’s rates of joblessness–broken down by county–for the month of March 2004.According to the EDD data, San Diego County reported an unemployment level of 4.1% for the month of March, which reflects a minor increase of 0.1% from February. In March, San Diego’s labor force was comprised of 1,501,100 residents, with 1,439,800 workers employed and 61,300 people out of work. In February, 60,400 people were unemployed and 1,438,300 residents were working out of a labor force of 1,498,700.Despite the slight rise in its March joblessness rate, San Diego continues to boast one of the strongest employment levels in the state. The county has hovered around the 4% mark for months now, with unemployment rates of 4%, 3.6%, 4.1% and 4% for November through February. San Diego ranked as number four statewide for those past four months as well-–a slot that it continued to hold onto in March. California’s state total for unemployment was 6.6% for the month of March, with 16,352,000 workers employed and 1,161,200 people out of work from a labor pool of 17,513,200.
