The new center is being funded through a capture of tax dollars in the recently created Automation Alley Technology Park, which is located on Big Beaver between John R and Rochester roads. The industrial park was created by the city to help promote high-tech business.

If all the speakers expected at the event show, it would mark a milestone of sorts.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is listed as a scheduled speaker--it would be a rarity for a mayor of Detroit to attend a groundbreaking in the suburbs.

In keeping with the Alley's high-tech focus, dignitaries are expected to break ground with assistance by a robot developed by Oakland Schools.

Alley executives also are expected to announce the addition of several governmental members and expansion into new areas of the Detroit region.
