"This new location also gives us greater access to other wireless communication companies, a larger and more diverse pool of suppliers, and universities performing leading research in our industry," says EFJ chairman and chief executive officer Michael E. Jalbert. "The Irving location is right outside one of the world's largest airports, which provides us with many logistical advantages."
Just last fall, the state and city recognized EFJohnson Co. on its 80th anniversary in business Waseca. The city declared Oct. 5 to Oct. 11 last year to be EFJohnson Week.
Jalbert said five years ago that his Lincoln, NE-based company sold the Waseca facility because it "did not see any benefit in owning real estate and acting as landlord. Our best use of cash is for the growth of our business."
Most of the EFJ workers will be laid off, although the company will retain a few workers who will support some of the mobile radio and radio signal repeater products made at the facility.
