EFJ Doing Early Exit of 132,000-SF Lease

WASECA, MN-Four years ago, the Lincoln, NE-based company did a sale/leaseback of the 252,000-sf facility. Now it plans to move its operations to Irving, TX.

WASECA, MN-EFJ Inc. plans to close its facility here by the end of March 2005 and move operations of the EFJohnson subsidiary to Irving, TX. EFJ has about 200 employees at the 252,000-sf facility, which an affiliate, Transcrypt International, sold for $2.9 million in a sale/leaseback four years ago. At the time, the company had agreed to a five-year lease for 132,000 sf of the facility, with other tenants occupying the balance of the space.

“This new location also gives us greater access to other wireless communication companies, a larger and more diverse pool of suppliers, and universities performing leading research in our industry,” says EFJ chairman and chief executive officer Michael E. Jalbert. “The Irving location is right outside one of the world’s largest airports, which provides us with many logistical advantages.”

Just last fall, the state and city recognized EFJohnson Co. on its 80th anniversary in business Waseca. The city declared Oct. 5 to Oct. 11 last year to be EFJohnson Week.
