Toll Brothers To Build 300-Unit Condo Project

ROYAL OAK, MI-The Farmington Hills-based homebuilder pays $1.4 million after being selected to develop 300-plus condos in the Downtown area. The development will replace a vacant Big Boy restaurant.

ROYAL OAK, MI-Royal Oak’s Downtown Development Authority has entered into an arrangement with homebuilder Toll Brothers Inc. to develop a Downtown condominium project that will also include retail space and a public plaza. Farmington Hills-based Toll Brothers Hills paid the DDA $1.4 million for development rights and plans to begin work on a housing project that includes a J-shaped building 10 to 12 stories high, with ground-floor retail space, 300 to 350 condominiums on upper floors and an open-air plaza with a fountain and walkways. Toll Brothers also wants to put in 750 parking spaces–150 at surface level and 600 underground.

“At this time, Toll is very pleased at having been awarded ‘preferred builder’ status by the Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority. Toll is excited about this project and looks forward to its commencement,” the company says in a statement. Construction likely won’t begin until 2005 on the project.
