The effort would initially spur the construction of a 560,000-sf first phase and 400,000-sf second phase on the east side of the city's Northwest Quadrant, a 100-acre redevelopment site near Interstate 694 and Old Highway 8. The effort could ultimately result in 1.5 million sf of new development and bring 2,000 jobs to the city.
The company has about 6,500 workers in the Twin Cities area, Chaudhary says. Medtronic moved into a sprawling world headquarters complex along Interstate 694 in nearby Fridley three years ago. Its proposed expansion would be the largest yet for the Twin Cities' growing medical technology sector.
The legislation will be included in the Omnibus Senate Tax Bill, which is expected to be heard in the next week or so by the full Senate.
