Same Job, Different Suburb for Development Director

NEW BRIGHTON, MN-After 18 years as this city's community development director, Kevin Locke will be taking a similar position in St. Louis Park.

NEW BRIGHTON, MN-Community development director Kevin Locke will be leaving New Brighton after 18 years to take a similar position at another Twin Cities suburb. Locke leaves April 29 to become community development director for St. Louis Park, a community of 44,000.

Locke began work under Jim Winkels, the community development director at the time. Within a couple of months, Winkels left that position and Locke became director. Locke’s almost two decades of development and redevelopment efforts included 40 projects and $90 million of new development.

After completion of the Old Hwy 8 Corridor study, Locke then focused on redeveloping of New Brighton’s City Center that ended up wining a “City Achievement Award” from the League of Minnesota Cities. During his career, he led New Brighton’s effort to become Minnesota’s 50th Star City, and helped author two comprehensive plans. He also spearheaded the revision of the Old 8 Corridor Plan, which led to the current NW Quadrant redevelopment efforts.
