Hormel, Quality Pork To Build 50,000-SF Plant

ALBERT LEA, MN-The pork processing plant will cost more than $5 million. It will be built in a new JOBZ zone the state set up to give tax breaks to job creators.

ALBERT LEA, MN-Hormel Foods Corp. and Quality Pork Processors Inc. are building a 50,000-sf hog processing plant on 11 acres in the Northaire Industrial Park. The new plant, which will cost more than $5 million, will be owned by Hormel and leased by Quality Pork Processors.

The new processing plant, an expanded boning and packaging operation, will create an estimated 200 new jobs, according to the companies.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty says the plant will be built in Albert Lea’s new Job Opportunity Building Zone. Pawlenty says his Job Opportunity Building Zone legislation, which passed the Minnesota Legislature last year, creates special tax-free zones in areas outside the Twin Cities metropolitan area as an incentive for job creators to grow in some of the state’s “most economically challenged areas.”
