GA Town Getting 2M-SF Distribution Center

ATLANTA-Douglas County, about five miles west of Downtown Atlanta, is looking at two new major developments that could break ground this year, area brokers following the projects tell GlobeSt.com. First Industrial Realty Inc. plans to develop Terminus West Business Park, 2.3-million-sf warehouse and distribution center on 244 acres at Terminus Drive and Blairs Road in Douglasville, GA. The site is south of Interstate 20 and Thornton Road in Douglas County which is attracting new industrial development.The estimated $12-million project doesn’t need rezoning status, but the Atlanta Regional Commission is reviewing the undertaking because of its size, according to the city’s planning department. About 1,000 workers will eventually find jobs at the business park, the city projects. About a mile south of the First Industrial project, the American Red Cross plans an estimated $23-million, 185,000-sf Southeastern regional headquarters on 19.5 acres in Tributary, a new 3,150-acre subdivision at New Manchester, south of Sweetwater Creek State Park and east of Fairburn Road. Red Cross officials say they are building the new structure because they are running out of space at their 60,000-sf quarters in Midtown where the metro Atlanta chapter will continue handling local operations. The Red Cross also operates out of three other local locations.
