Incentives Lure Two SD Companies To Minnesota

LUVERNE, MN-Gov. Tim Pawlenty cites his JOBZ tax-free business zones as a reason companies are expanding in his state. He says the 13 expansions are just a start for the program.

LUVERNE, MN-The recent expansion of two South Dakota firms into Minnesota has been cited by Gov. Tim Pawlenty as an example of how his 10 JOBZ tax-free business zones are attracting and retaining companies. Since January, 13 companies have executed agreements to invest more than $29 million in Minnesota and will create at least 230 new jobs averaging about $12.50 an hour, plus benefits, according to Pawlenty.

From what’s in the pipeline, Pawlenty says he expects more than 1,500 additional jobs in the near future, along with more than $208 million in new capital investment.

Total Card Inc., a Sioux Falls, SD, company that handles credit card services for banks, is opening a second call center in Luverne, about 30 miles away. Luverne is in the Southwest Regional Job Zone. Total Card expects to have the facility up and running in about two months and will hire 200 people over the next few years, company president Greg Ticknor says.
