Equinix Makes 50% Addition With New Lease

ASHBURN, VA-Business is looking good for Equinix Inc., a network-neutral data center and Internet exchange services provider, so the firm has decided to expand its Washington, DC-area occupancy by 50%. With the assistance of real estate services firm Trammell Crow Co., Equinix has leased a 95,000-sf building adjacent to its current 180,000-sf Washington, DC Internet Business Exchange site from Eden Adventures LLC. The three-year-old, single-story warehouse facility at 44460 Chilum Place will serve as additional data center space for the company. “We are seeing a tremendous amount of customer demand for our Internet hubs and exchange services in the Washington, DC market,” Equinix CEO Peter Van Camp says. “With our existing DC center approaching 60% utilization, this new expansion gives us additional capacity to take advantage of this momentum with minimal capital investment.” Financial terms of Equinix’s long-term lease agreement with Eden Adventures have not been revealed; however flex/warehouse space in the Dulles/Route 28 corridor lease for an average $8 per-sf, according to Delta Associates’ Year-End 2003 Report.
