The finished project will be a consolidation location for some 350 county employees in administration and health and human services. "Mohave County had a need to combine several key county departments into one efficient building," Keith Earnest, Opus West's vice president of real estate development, says in a press release.
The county's administrative staff will occupy 100,000 sf and health and human services employees will take the remaining 30,000 sf. Mohave County negotiated a 15-year, lease-to-own arrangement with Opus West for the building, which eventually will sit next to the new sheriff's complex along West Beale Street and just east of Interstate 40.
With construction slated to break ground in July, the administration building will include a two-story, glass atrium lobby and 275-seat county boardroom. Recycled materials and low-flow water fixtures are just a couple of the environmentally friendly buildingcomponents featured in the project.
"This is a hallmark project for Mohave County," county manager Ron Walker says in a statement. "County staff spent many hours researching traditional and alternative construction delivery methods. They selected the design-build process as the most costeffective and sophisticated method to deliver long-term quality and value in a building that will carry Mohave County for the next 20 to 30 years."
The project has Opus' name written all over it. Opus West and Opus West Construction Corp. will act as developer and general contractor alongside project architect Opus Architects & Engineers. Opus West Property Management gets the assignment to oversee the property upon completion. Opus' track record with municipal projects includes the Arizona Department of Administration and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, both in Phoenix.
