Tractor Co. Expands by Nearly 500,000 SF Outside of Baltimore

HAGERSTOWN, MD-Nashville, TN-headquartered Tractor Supply Co. has decided to expand its operations by adding a new 482,000-sf distribution center to its existing site at the Crossroads Corporate Center within the Hopewell Valley Industrial Complex. The farm and ranch products services supplier chose to expand at its Washington County locale after considering building the addition at one of its sites in four other states. It will cost the company approximately $19 million to develop the facility. Situated off I-81 and near I-70, the 124-acre Crossroads Corporate Center is also home to concrete product producer Pavestone Co., which opened its plant in 2001. TSC’s new facility will share a 53-acre parcel with the company’s existing plant off Hopewell Road. “The addition of this Mid-Atlantic distribution center will help the company better serve its retail locations,” Washington County Board of County Commissioners president Gregory I. Snook explains. TSC keeps one of its retail stores nearby on Massey Boulevard and has additional retail sites in the state. Both state and local officials campaigned to get TSC to build the new distribution center here. In an effort to facilitate the land purchase and construction, the Department of Business and Economic Development forwarded a $250,000 conditional loan and a $35,000 loan from Washington County. Both loans will convert to grants provided the company lives up to its projected creation of 180 new full-time jobs by the end of 2006. TSC expects to wrap up construction of the facility by the end of this year.
