The Health System, which operates the 313-bed Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Downtown seeks approval from the Georgia Mountains Regional Development Center for an estimated $90-million, 300,000-sf addition to the hospital, along with a seven-level parking deck for 1,170 vehicles. The addition would include a cancer center.

The Health System filed its plans with Gainesville's Department of Planning and Development. The organization also operates Lanier Park Hospital, about three miles from the Northeast Georgia Medical Center; and Laurelwood, a mental health and substance-abuse treatment center about a mile from the hospital. Gainesville is 40 miles northeast of Downtown Atlanta.
