The gourmet restaurant six months ago announced its intention to find a central spot in the Twin Cities. Stillwater is about 30 miles east of the Twin Cities near the Wisconsin border.

The French Mediterranean restaurant, which is owned and operated by restaurateurs Josh Thoma and Tim McKee, will be located directly across the street from their other restaurant, Solera.

The new venue also provides the restaurateurs with the opportunity to expand on their concept by creating a cafe on the floor above La Belle Vie. In contrast to the intimate and more formal atmosphere of the restaurant, the cafe will be a high-energy, casual restaurant, according to the restaurant operators.

The restaurants will occupy two floors of the four-story hotel, a $14-million renovation being developed by RWB Development Co. The venture involves Ira Drukier, a boutique hotel operator who has the Chambers and Mercer Hotels in New York City; and Ralph Burnet, a well-recognized Twin Cities businessman who is general partner for the new venture.

Ryan Cos., the Minneapolis-based commercial real estate firm, is doing the construction work on the hotel project.
