The new Big Boy will be owned by franchisee Chuck Darany and will replace an existing location owned by Darany on John R near 13 Mile Road. The new location will be at the corner of John R and 13 Mile, part of a new Sam's Club retail development.

The new restaurant will be the first new "ground-up" restaurant in Big Boy's home metropolitan Detroit market, says Big Boy chief executive officer Tony Michaels. The chain opened such a prototype last year in Grand Rapids.

"We are excited about the opportunity to work with Chuck Darany and the city of Madison Heights to quickly locate a new site in the immediate area to build a prototype Big Boy restaurant that will give our loyal customers a wonderful 'Ohhh Boy!' experience," Michaels says.

Big Boy also has signed an area franchise development agreement with Jim Talghani to open 16 Bob's Big Boy restaurants over the next eight years in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Reno, NV. The first two Bob's Big Boy restaurants are scheduled to open in Las Vegas by October, with four more to open within the next three years.

Big Boy has more than 455 locations in the U.S. and Japan.
