CVS Design Wins City Approval, Satisfies Objectors

ST. PAUL-A more urban design for the 13,000-sf drug store satisfies neighborhood critics. CVS plans to open as many as 40 Twin Cities stores in the next five years.

ST. PAUL-The City of St. Paul and CVS drug store finally hammered out a design for its new store at University and Snelling avenues acceptable to both. Rhode Island-based CVS original design for the 13,000-sf Midway store, which included a windowless wall along University, touched off wide criticism. The St. Paul City Council recently approved the new design.

University United, a coalition of neighborhood groups and businesses, has been battling CVS and its developer, the Velmeir Cos., for months over the design. They argued the initial design, featuring a windowless wall along University, was not fit for such a prominent urban intersection.
