LIBERTY, NY-The Gerry Foundation, owner/developer of the proposed Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, NY, selected Boston-based Suffolk Construction Co. Inc. to be in charge of construction of the $46-million project that is expected to break ground this summer.

The firm has constructed facilities in 22 states and has been involved with similar projects such as the Seiji Ozawa Concert Hall at Tanglewood in Lennox, MA; the Opera House in Boston; the Gosman Amphitheater at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, FL, and the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, FL.

The Bethel Woods project will include a 4,000-seat covered pavilion, an interpretive center and events lobby, permanent farm market structures, parking and infrastructure. The performing arts center is being developed at the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel. According to Gerry Foundation officials, the project is now before the Town of Bethel seeking site plan approval. All environmental reviews have been completed and construction is scheduled to begin sometime this summer.
