MINNEAPOLIS-An industrial property organization here plans to do the first market survey of the costs of doing business related to development in the Twin Cities. The Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Industrial & Office Properties is preparing a “metro-wide survey” to determine expenses such as review fees, permit costs, sewer and water fees, park and trail fees and other charges for a hypothetical 50,000-sf office/warehouse building.

The survey also will address how much time is needed for each phase of a development application, from initial design review to issuance of a final building permit.

In collecting the collecting the data, the Minneapolis-based NAIOP chapter says it hopes to help city governments and the business community to understand the impact of these costs on new business investment and economic development.
