Dearborn Assembly Plant's Future Uncertain

DEARBORN, MI-Ford Motor Co. says it has no plans yet for a 3.4-million-sf Dearborn Assembly Plant that produced its last car earlier this week. It opened in 1918.

DEARBORN, MI-Ford Motor Co. has yet to announce its plans for its oldest plant assembly plant, a facility that’s part of the sprawling Rouge complex that ceased production this week. A Ford spokeswoman tells GlobeSt.com no long-term decisions have yet been made on the Dearborn Assembly Plant, where the last car–a red Ford Mustang–rolled off the line on May 10.

Work from the DAP is being shifted to a Ford assembly plant in Flat Rock, MI. Most of the 2,000 DAP workers are being shifted to the Dearborn Truck Assembly, which is also located on the 600-acre Rouge site.

“The DAP has served Ford for a long time. We’ll eventually be announcing what will happen with the plant,” the spokeswoman says.
