BOSTON-City Mayor Thomas M. Menino unveiled a new housing plan for the city that will build on the city’s initial plan to increase the production of housing in Boston. The new plan, Leading the Way II, is a four-year, $375 million campaign that involves the production of 10,000 new units of housing–2,100 of which will be affordable–the renovation of 2,000 units and the preservation of 3,000 affordable units. The plan also includes bringing in housing partners, such as Bank of America, Citizens and KeySpan, to help the city’s housing efforts.

Four years ago, Menino and his housing agencies worked with a housing advisory panel to develop a new housing strategy for the city, known as Leading the Way. Last fall Menino convened a new housing advisory panel to find new ways to address housing needs.
