"The topography is great. There are a lot of natural washes that run through the site that we've preserved, as well as an extensive trail system," Heidi Kimball, a vice president at Sunbelt Holdings, tells GlobeSt.com. "Everything is linked with very strongpedestrian connections."

Sunbelt is developing the property on behalf of Sonoran Foothills Inc., a family-owned company in Phoenix. Construction of the recreational center is being financed by proceeds from the sale of several single-family parcels in the development.

The single-story private facility will be surrounded by a 10-acre park and includes two tennis courts, a basketball court and volleyball court. The wood-frame building was designed by David W. Fulk Architecture of Scottsdale. Wespac Construction Inc. of Phoenix is the general contractor. Sonoran Foothills will eventually host some 1,300 single-family homes, about 500 apartments on two multifamily parcels, a public school and 120 acres of commercial development.
