Say what you will about the pains of swimming in the public markets. Monty J. Bennett, president and CEO of the year-old Ashford Hospitality Trust, loves it. Scrutiny, he says, is something he had been used to since long before the Dallas-based Ashford was formed, when he and his fellow executives worked for predecessor firm Remington Hotel Corp., for which Bennett served as president. Directly on the heels of launching the new firm, the group went public, raising total equity of $250 million. Coming up on a year later, Bennett sat down with GlobeSt.com for an exclusive interview about life in the public lane and the ongoing healing we’re witnessing in the hotel market.

GlobeSt.com: How has life changed since you went public?

Bennett: It’s very interesting. We’ve enjoyed being in the public arena. We’ve heard a number of people who weren’t too happy with it, and essentially they had warned us against it. But we’ve found it enjoyable so far, and we hope it keeps up.
