$100M Kids' Museum To Be Gem of 1M-SF Mixed-Use Project

WASHINGTON, DC-The Capital Children’s Museum will evolve into the National Children’s Museum and make its new home at the center of the L’Enfant Plaza revitalization project, a multi-million-dollar, 900,000-sf mixed-use project being developed at the District’s largest Metro Station. The JBG Cos. is behind the development of the entire endeavor, which sits just blocks from the National Mall, and is calling on Cesar Pelli & Associates and Hickok Warner Cole Architects to spearhead design of the revitalization effort, including the new 140,000-sf museum complex.

“As the anchor of the L’Enfant Plaza project, the National Children’s Museum will play an important part in the renaissance of a long-overlooked area of the city that will be a gateway to the waterfront and a link to the cultural treasures on the Mall,” JBG Cos. managing partner Michael Glosserman notes. Museum officials are busy with a $100-million fundraising campaign to fund the new building.
