Sarah Murphy, the former president of F. Diehl & Son, notes that Eastern Development "recognizes the priority of this site to the town of Wellesley and its residents." Tom Maher, a principal of Eastern Development, did not return calls by deadline, but in a released statement says that his firm is looking forward to working closely with the town as it develops its vision for the property.
The merger does not include the Diehls Home Center hardware and lumber businesses, which the Murphy family is presently marketing for sale. The Diehls Home Center is planning to lease its current location at 180 Linden St. for a short term, it says, to allow the marketing activities to take place.
