PLEASANTON, CA-The City Council here next month will vote on a draft master plan for creating a cohesive government campus from a heterogeneous mixture of aging structures. Currently, the city and its consultant for the project, Group 4 Architecture Research Planning Inc. are taking public comment on a dozen or so designs en route to having just two plans for the council to consider in July. The main objectives of the Civic Center Master Plan is to increase the amount of building space the city has to operate in by nearly 50%, from 99,298 sf to 146, 145 sf, and commensurately increase the amount of parking, from 395 spaces to 585 spaces. To do so, they plan to replace surface parking lots with garages, and temporary modular buildings with permanent structures.Generally speaking, the area being planned is bordered by Main Street and Bernal and Old Bernal avenues. The last few design iterations include a parking garage on the south side of Old Bernal Avenue between Peterson and Augustine avenues and a new City Hall on the west side of Main Street at the intersection with Bernal Avenue.
