Landmark Birmingham Office Scheme Wins Consent

LONDON-Calthorpe Estates and Barberry Developments have been granted planning permission to proceed with a £40-million office ($75-million) 123,000-sf office development at Five Ways in Birmingham city centre.

LONDON-Birmingham City Council has approved plans by Calthorpe Estates and Barberry Developments to redevelop the existing Donne House and Nettleton House office buildings at Five Ways, between the city centre and Edgbaston. The new seven-storey building will provide 123,000 sf of Grade A space accessed by a full height glazed atrium and 333 underground car parking spaces. The new building has been designed by the Webb Gray Partnership and letting agents for the scheme are DTZ Debenham Tie Leung. To carry out the development Calthorpe Estates has formed a joint venture with Barberrry Developments. The deal means Barberry now has over 300,000 sf of development under way in Birmingham city centre. Andrew Russell-Wilks, development director for Calthorpe Estates, says: “The redevelopment of Donne and Nettleton Houses will not only provide an imposing gateway to the Calthorpe Estate, it will continue the much needed supply of quality offices in the city and further the connection between Edgbaston with its commercial neighbours at Brindleyplace.”
